On March 18 and 19, 2015, the city of La Serena, Coquimbo Region, Republic of Chile, hosted the Integrated Diagnostic Study and Strategic Analysis Binational Works, held within the framework of the design of an Integration Territorial Program (PTI) associated with project Agua Negra Binational Tunnel. The Workshop was attended by delegations from Argentina and Chile, the technical assistance team, and IIRSA Technical Coordination Committee.
The results of the Workshop were as follows: i) feedback on the Integrated Diagnostic Study as the main output of this stage of the work plan; ii) definition of the strategic factors and processes; iii) identification of concurrent planning at the national or binational level; iv) identification of the key participants and thematic experts, and schedule of the participation activities; and v) preliminary identification of the actions to be included in the PTI for each strategic factor.
The main purpose of the Integrated Diagnostic Study is to characterize the following dimensions of the Area of Action of the PTI: infrastructure, biophysical aspects, socio-territorial aspects, socio-cultural aspects, economic and productive aspects, and natural hazards and risks. On the basis of this, the strategic factors and processes invigorating the territory are identified. Finally, a diagnostic summary that marks the beginning of the territorial strategic analysis process is presented.
At present, the Integrated Diagnostic Study is being analyzed by both countries.
