On June 26, 2014, the city of Santiago, Chile, hosted the IX Meeting of the COSIPLAN Coordinating Committee of the South American Infrastructure and Planning Council (COSIPLAN) within the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), as provided for in the COSIPLAN Work Plan 2014.
The meeting was presided by the delegation of Chile, holding the COSIPLAN Presidency Pro Tempore, and was attended by the delegations of the Republic of Argentina, the Federal Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Chile, the Republic of Colombia, the Republic of Ecuador, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the Republic of Paraguay, the Republic of Peru, the Republic of Suriname, the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the UNASUR General Secretariat.
At this meeting, citizen participation and the dissemination of the COSIPLAN activities were analyzed with the purpose of providing citizens with clear information on the projects and guiding principles of social and environmental sustainability that underlie the work carried out by the countries concerning infrastructure development. Furthermore, a description was made of the progress attained by the different COSIPLAN Working Groups (Geographic Information System and Website, Rail Integration, Telecommunications, and Financing and Guarantee Mechanisms), and the results of the Workshop on Integrated Planning held in June in Quito, Ecuador, were communicated.
