Mr. Carlos Paredes, the Peruvian Minister of Transportation and Communications, presided over the III Meeting of UNASUR Communications Ministers held on August 9 in the city of Lima within the framework of the South American Infrastructure and Planning Council (COSIPLAN). The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Bolivia, Brazil, Guyana, Uruguay, and Venezuela as well as representatives of Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina.
The UNASUR Communications Ministers agreed upon a common agenda on the development of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) to reduce communications vulnerability. Furthermore, they recognized the importance and urgency of making headway with the South American Integration Connectivity Network Project, the reduction of costs, and universal access to the Internet.
