The infrastructure officials of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) assembled on November 16, 2012, in the city of Lima, Peru, on the occasion of the Third Ministerial Meeting of the South American Infrastructure and Planning Council (COSIPLAN).
During the meeting, the progress made in the implementation of the COSIPLAN activities throughout 2012 was assessed, and taking into consideration the results attained as well as the new initiatives, the Work Plan for 2013 was developed. Additionally, a decision was made on the agreements to be submitted to the Summit of the UNASUR Heads of State.
Furthermore, it was agreed to boost the South American countries’ interconnection by installing a Fiber Optic Network to improve communications and reduce the associated costs.
Finally, within the framework of the Strategic Action Plan (PAE) 2012-2022, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela and the UNASUR General Secretariat reaffirmed their commitment to continuing boosting projects concerned with physical infrastructure and the improvement of logistics services at the national and sub-regional levels as a priority in their public policies and development strategies for the sake of connectivity and integration of their territories.
